Materials: Bible story about Joshua, blocks, makeshift trumpets, books about fitness, fairy-tales involving running, walking, soccer ball and a few to play soccer with
Song: I have two happy little feet, CSB pg 270
Memorizing: Chorus to "I'll go where you want me to go dear Lord, hymn 270: “I’ll go where you want me to go dear Lord, over mountain, or plain or sea, I’ll say what you want me to say dear Lord, I’ll be what you want me to be!”
Scripture Story: Read a children’s bible story about Joshua and how he commands the people to follow the Lord’s instructions of marching with their feet, seven times around the city, and then blowing their horns.
Activity: Build a city with blocks. March around it seven times, and then use make shift horns (ie. A funnel from the kitchen) and blow your horns. The children will enjoy the city of Jericho crashing down.

~ Print out the food pyramid on-line for kids, and cut out the little people doing action activities. Glue them on a poster.
Drama/Action/Pretend:
Gather a few children and play a game of soccer, emphasize the joy of using your feet.
Additional devotional/ Family Night lesson:

Missionary Work: Talk about the Armor of God as is explained in Doctrine and Covenants and explain that our feet are shod with the gospel of peace. Play the Armor game. (A game given to me where you have a cut out child for each child. There is a piece of armor for each body part, 1-helmet of salvation, 2-breast plate of righteousness, 3-loins gird about with truth, feet shod with the gospel of peace, 4-sword of the spirit and the 5-shield of faith.) Roll a dice. They have to roll a one and put the helmet on, then they must get a 2 next, etc. Discuss sharing the gospel as what it means to have your feet shod with the gospel of peace. Note how missionaries do a lot of walking as they spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Discuss how we as a family can teach others about Jesus as missionaries. Challenge the family to bring up a gospel conversation with their friends.

Joy: Joy of Body—Feet: obedience and faith

Materials: Hymn book, Book of Mormon reader, Blankets, laundry baskets, pans, fake food, and other kid found provisions to take into the wilderness as Lehi’s family, three or four small containers to take on a nature walk, fun music to dance to or a trampoline or other activity to do with feet

Memorizing: Chorus to previous song: “I’ll go where you want me to go dear Lord, over mountain, or plain or sea, I’ll say what you want me to say dear Lord, I’ll be what you want me to be!”
Scripture Story: Tell the story of how God commanded Lehi and his family to leave Jerusalem, say good bye to their precious things, and camp in the wilderness, in order to make it to the promised land.
Activity: Pretend to be Nephi’s family, using their feet to obey the Lord. Use blankets, and all sorts of house hold items to go into the wilderness and camp. Rawl enjoyed catching some food with his bow, and Milly enjoyed cooking the food.

Read Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. Discuss how the rabbit was putting his life in a dangerous position, and had many consequences happen as a result of disobeying his mother. Discuss how the other bunnies were obedient with their feet, and what blessings they enjoyed.
Science:
~Discuss how happy exercising makes us feel. Tell the children that they exercise by playing. Discuss those ways that they play that is healthy for them, such as nature walks, riding their bikes, jumping on trampolines, dancing to music. Put some fun music on and dance, or go and jump on a trampoline together.
Math: Use your feet to go on a walk, and bring four cups or containers. Let the children find leaves to put into one cup, rocks into another, sticks into a third, etc. If the child can think of different categories, then let them.
Field Trip: Use your feet to take you on a walk.

Additional devotional/ Family Night lesson:

Obedience and Faith: Objective: When we obey our parents, we learn how to obey our Heavenly Father. Blindfold the children and lead them through an obstacle course. (We climbed up a step stool and onto a weight set, ducked under the bar, and walked across the bench. Child jumped into parent’s arms.) Discuss the trust this took to obey as our parents led us to safety and love. Emphasize that we Heavenly Father gives us parents, and we learn to trust and obey them, so we can learn to trust and obey our Father in Heaven.

Eyes, Unit III: Self Awareness and Control--Joy of the Body

Scripture Story: Primary 1 ch.18 “I am thankful to Heavenly Father for my eyes” pg 61. You can extend this by adding application, show a picture of Christ’s second coming, and tell the children the best thing we will ever get to see in our lives is Jesus returning to Earth to love us. Tell them this may happen in our lives, or it will happen at the end of our lives when we return to heaven. Sing “I wonder when he comes again”

History: Using a blind fold, tell the children that they will only have to wear these for five minutes, to be able to feel what it would be like to not have our wonderful eyes to see with. My son cooperated well, but my daughter freaked out. (Perhaps if you talk about it more on what to expect before the activity, it would work better, like, “We are going to feel what its like to be blind. It will feel a little sad and frustrating. But blind people use their other senses much more, because they can’t use their eyes. Listen carefully to what you hear, notice the feeling of the magical wind and the happy warm sunshine, and lucky for you, we will only keep the blind fold on for a little tiny time of 2 minutes and I am watching my watch,” etc.) When we took off our blindfold, we pretended when we could ‘see’ for the first time, that Christ was healing us! (Even though the kids were peaking out of their blindfolds the whole time.) When I took off Milly’s blindfold, I said, “What do you see?” Milly said loudly, I see a naked man! (A jogger with out a shirt.) The appreciation and splendor of having eyes didn’t seem to come out at all, but what do you do? Keep trying!
Science: ~Put on sunshades for play, and talk about safety in not looking at the sun for avoiding eye damage.
~ Snuggle under blankets together and discuss why it is so important and healthy to sleep.
~Teach how blind people read by feeling bumps with their fingers. This is called brail.
Math:
Play with shaped blocks again, but this time blindfold the child and see if they can guess the shape by just feeling it.
Drama/Action/Pretend:
Field Trip: Go to a favorite place, and really emphasize all that child can see with their eyes. Riley took my children to the animal farm, and Hazel, my one year old, was the sweetest of all delighting to pet the animals, and giggling.

~If your child is blind, teach them how Heavenly Father helped all their senses to be hightened and that there are feelings they will always appreciate more than someone born with eyes that work. Let them know one day Christ will fix their eyes.

Science:
~Explain how smart Heavenly Father was when he gave us eyes. He knew dirt and dust could blow into our eyes, so he gave us eyebrows and eyelashes, to guard our eyes from these. Eyebrows also catch sweat from dripping into our eyes. He didn’t want our eyes to dry out from the wind, so he made our eyes moist and wet to keep them from drying out. Tears come out to help wash out foreign objects from our eyes.
~Go on a nature walk, and notice all the wonderful things that you see. Children noticed a rainbow in a sprinkler, a horse, a fuzzy black caterpillar, big sticks to play with. Emphasize that Heavenly Father wants us to see and notice all these beautiful things to bring us happiness.

~Make an eyeball model out of salt dough.

Materials: Salt dough, paint of your color choice for iris, red, yellow and black paint, plastic from a bottle or clear table cloth cut into a small disc, paint brush

1) Make a ball out of salt dough to your preferred size.

2) Cut a piece of pliable plastic into a circular shape to represent the lens. [such as a table cloth covering plastic which you can have pieces cut of this at a fabric store, or cut a small circle out of a bottle top]

3) Glue this on the center of the ball with some glue.

4) Put a thin layering of more salt dough over the lens. (The lens won’t actually show in your model, but the children will remember it is behind the iris and pupil.)

5) Make a hole in the center, of this thin covering. This will later be the pupil.

6) Let your salt dough dry.

7) When it is dry, paint on the iris over the area where your lens is. Paint a black pupil, where there is a hole indentation in the clay.

8) At the back of the eye, paint a red circle for the retina. When that dries, you can paint on yellow cones and rods cells, squiggly lines.

9) At the very back of the eye, connected to the retina, tape on a red piece of yarn to symbolize the nerve.

10) Fold a cardstock paper in half, and dictate child’s explanation of the eye model, and how the eye works.

Math: Play with shaped blocks.
Play with shaped blocks again, but this time blindfold the child and see if they can guess the shape by just feeling it.
Art: Sing “Popcorn Popping” CSB pg 242 cd 5:13 Go look out window, discuss all you see, Draw a simple window. Have children draw what they see in their windows! Express how thankful we are to Heavenly Father for our eyes. (See Primary 1, chap 19, pg 62, Additional Activity #1)
Idea #2: Make a paper bag, that can open and shut its eyes, Primary 2, chap 19 pg62, bottom of the page.
Drama/Action/Pretend:
~Primary 1, ch.19 pg 62, Additional Activity #3, hunt for an object that is hidden, using your eyes.
~Play with a kaleidoscope, and enjoy our eyes being able to see so many shapes and colors.
Field Trip:

~Go to a beautiful garden, or green house, notice each plant and its design and intricate beauty. (We went to Thanksgiving point’s gardens!)

Scripture Story:
1~Nurs. Man. Ch 18, pg 57, “Our ears are a blessing to us” Start with paragraph, “Ask the children to carefully feel their ears”, and go through section. After it says “Explain that we should protect our ears from loud noises…” ALSO explain Loud and bad music that will hurt their spirits and their ears. Explain that bad music is any music that makes them feel angry inside, or gives them an icky feeling.
2~Go into some detail about bad music, and tell them that if a song makes them feel icky, to go and turn it off, or to ask someone to turn it off. (MY son is very responsive to music. You would think this concept would be to big for one so young, but he understood very well, and now I can go back to this lesson when he needs it in life, especially teaching him to go to good music when he’s feeling upset.)
3~Listen to some peaceful lovely music together, and ask the children how they feel. Testify that good music was given to us from Heavenly Father to gladden our hearts and cheer us up.
Activity: Role-play obeying. Children and parent take turns being the parent and the child. The parent calls out a command such as “Stop! Don’t go into the street!” and the ‘child’ obeys. Discuss each scenario.

~Go on a nature hike and listen for sounds. If you have a tape recorder, bring it and record some sounds. Come back home, and listen, guessing the sounds recorded, and discuss their favorite sounds, what sounds brought them joy and peace listening to, or what sounds that maybe they didn’t like (crying, whining, complaining, or loud construction, for example.) [OR see Primary 1 pg 59 Enrichment Activity #4 where you make the recording yourself and bring it to listen to together.]
Math:
~Have children create some of their own music from simple make-do instruments, such as a sterilized comb to rub against teeth, or use home made instruments. Have a little concert.
~Listen to some tapes or cds that have happy music, or have lyrics about listening and using your ears such as Janine Brady’s “Watch me Sing” with the song “Little Echo voice”
Drama/Action/Pretend:
~Listen to the cd that accompanies Primary 1 Manual, there are many fun listening activities, such as Going to the Zoo, Walking through a forest, do these with the child and have fun!

4~Play the “What if” game about children not obeying certain scenarios, and discuss what would happen.

Extension: At another appropriate time, tell children that listening to Mom and Dad will help them become ready to obey Heavenly Father and his messages from the Holy Ghost.

~~Make an ‘ear book’ about including sections such as “About the ear”, “Sounds we love”, “Important sounds to listen to”, “Sound that are dangerous for our ears”, “How to keep our ears safe (spiritually, and physically)”
Science:

Ear Mini-Lessons: Pick and choose from these, and or do them sequentially for a week or so, at a fixed or unfixed time of day that lends itself to a teaching moment, to prepare for upcoming preschool activities about ears.
Day 1:

(You could show body parts that should not be touched using a doll, by others and if they are to tell a parent/guardian)
Science:

We touch some things gently: eggs, ornaments, kittens, glass, babies because they are fragile (let children handle these)

History: Using classical music, that is very up beat and exciting, have children imagine they are Adam and Eve, and are receiving their bodies for the first time. Explain how long they anticipated this moment. Dance with children to this exciting imagery, leaping, swirling, smiling, and skipping!
Math: Using pom-poms, sort the colors into different bowls, (see movie) & read a counting book with Milly
Art:
1-Read D&C 130:22 “The Father has a body, of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the son also…” Explain that tangible means they can touch it. Have children touch your arm, and tell them that if Heavenly Father was here, they could touch him too.

These devotionals teach the child that their body was created in his image, and prepare them to learn about Adam and Eve’s bodies being created, on the sixth day of the creation, as well as help them realize how special they are, that they are created in God’s image. I do devotionals in the morning right as kids are waking up and I am feeding the baby, during lunch or breakfast, or when children are engaged in a more quiet activity.

Devotional Day 1:
1~Show children a picture of you and your spouce. Show child physical features that they inherited from you.
2~Use Nurs. Man. Chap 2, pg 6 Additional Activity #4, a simple tangible activity of touching your nose, etc, to prepare them for the next point you are going to teach them
3~Now use Nurs. Man. Chapter 2, pg 4, “Jesus Christ looks like Heavenly Father” to point out how Jesus looks like his father too. You will need a picture of Christ.
4~Do Additional Activity #2, pg 6 of the same chapter, to help them further make the connection of their similar body to Heavenly Father’s.
Devotional Day 2:
1-Re-read John 14:9, from yesterday’s devotional.
2) Tell the story of Marc and his family, Nursery Man. Ch.2, Pg 5, “Enrichment Activity #4.
3) Have them look into a mirror, and say “Remember when you look in a mirror, that you also look like your Heavenly Parents.”

Devotional Day 4: Using the first vision to help child understand what God and Jesus look like.
1~Nurs. Man. Ch 2, pg 4, “We Look like Heavenly Father and Jesus.”, start at STORY.

3~Do Nurs. Man. Ch 2, pg 5, Enrichment Activity #3, having children tell the story in their own words.
Devotional Day 5: Demonstrate that God created Adam and Eve by giving them a physical body with a spirit. Place a piece of wax paper over a picture of Adam and Eve and trace with a Sharpie the body’s outline. Cut these wax paper drawings out. They represent their spirit bodies. Demonstrate to children, by placing the traced wax paper on top of the picture of Adam or Eve to show how their spirit body, (that once lived in heaven), received an earthly body. To represent death, separate the two, putting the spirit body up higher, (call it heaven) and tuck the physical body in a hat that represents the grave. Explain that because of Jesus Christ, and his resurrection, our bodies will be re-united after death. Next, remove the picture of Adam and of Eve from the hat, and re-unite it with the wax paper outline of their body. With love and enthusiasm, testify that Christ conquered death, so everyone who dies, will be re-united with their bodies again! Their bodies will be perfect from any earthly physical deformity. (See Alma 11: 42-44)

To really solidify this entire unit, it is soooooooooo important to really help child know how much Heavenly Father, and his son, Jesus Christ love your child. Their family members love them, but there will come many times when even parents and loved ones won't be there for them. It is critical your child learns to derive absolute confidence unshakable from feeling the Lord's love. This will help them to remain free from addictions in their life (which are a mere manifestation for the need to feel God's love, but filling the void inappropriately). Here is a week of devotionals to fit within your daily activities, but it is most important to continually reiterate this most important point in the most teachable moments, which are not usually formal lessons at all. These teachings will help your children grow in confidence as well as faith that they are being taken care of, and they will begin to see God's hand in their lives at a young age, and begin to know He answers their prayers--and most importantly they will feel VERY loved.

Scripture Story: Use a telephone to demonstrate. Tell children, that when you call a person, you think about them first. (Use a photo of a friend and look at it to demonstrate.) Tell them you think about what you want to say. Talk aloud your thoughts about this friend, and what you plan to say. Pretend to dial the number, and then pretend or really, talk to the friend. Now tell them prayer is like talking to a very special friend. Look at a picture of Jesus, and tell them you can think about, or imagine them listening in your mind, as you talk. Tell them, you can take a few minutes to think about what you want to say before you start. Have everyone take a look at the picture of the Savior, and you are going to take away the picture, but have them keep the image in their mind. Now have each child think of what they would want to say to him. Pass around the phone and let child or children tell their thoughtful message, pretending it is the Lord. Testifiy that our prayers will be meaningful when we think about Heavenly Father as we talk to him, and we are thoughtful in what we say to him. As a little art activity, do Nursery Manual pg 12, additional activity #3. (As a review of their book, or if your book is unfinished, work on that.)

Science: After reading, Quick as a Cricket, Make a density tower, discuss how there are many different layers and aspects of each person’s personality. Discuss the science behind this experiment as well. Liquids will sink or float in water too. Try this experiment with liquid layers. Gather a variety of liquids with different densities: honey, corn syrup, glycerin, maple syrup, liquid detergent, water, vegetable oil and rubbing alcohol. Which liquids sink in water and which liquids float? How many liquid layers can you make? Add liquids in the sequence listed above to build a density tower with eight layers! Tips: Add food coloring to the water and glycerin for a more colorful density tower. Use medicine droppers to add the liquids; fix medicine droppers (or clear straws) into play dough to make faux test tubes.

Art/Literature: This book should help child remember the format of prayer. Illustrate for children and or glue pictures from magazines, help child see examples of things they can be thankful for, or help the child to see what kind of things they can ask help for. Knowing what to pray for comes naturally to some children, more than others. Long after you make the book, continue to help child see when God answered their prayers. My child, didn’t want to ask for help, because she thought it was a slant to her abilities, until she got a prayer answered about being able to play with a cousin, whom she really missed. Now she does ask God for help with things!
Science: (Transition to books about birth, by saying that this child has been an answer to prayer in their life, for all the wonderful joy they bring to the parents life. Do these Devotionals during breakfast, at other calm moments during your day, or on a family night, to prepare for the preschool activities of this next joy, Sensitivity to the Spirit.

I color photo copied this picture from Docterine and Covenants Stories (The Docterine and Covenants in story form for children.) D&C 130:22 pg 197 ---This picture is AWESOME, I use it over and over as a visual aide, to show God, his Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.
Holy Ghost Devotional 1: PREPARE: Purchase a piece of clear table cloth cover at a fabric store, and using a Sharpie, draw on an image of the Holy Ghost. Or photo copy a black and white picture of the Holy Ghost onto a piece of velom, to show how the Holy Ghost has a spirt body that can come and talk to you in your mind and heart.
I also drew a picture of a boy that I laminated, which has arrows pointing to his mind and heart, to help child see, where the Holy Ghost will talk to them.

I have children touch their mind and heart as they look at this picture.
TEACH: Nurs. Man. pg 19, Lesson 7 “The Holy Ghost Helps Me”, “Learning Activity, Attention Activity” will explain this perfectly, and your visual aide will really help child to visualize how the Holy Ghost speaks to your mind and heart.
Holy Ghost Devotional 2: PREPARE: Gather a picture of Jesus.
Teach: Nursery Manual pg 19 “The Holy Ghost gives us comfort and help” After asking the first bulleted question, EMPHASIZE to child that HOLY GHOST feels like a HUG in their heart. (Stop teaching right where it says ‘Story’.) Give each child a hug, and ask how they feel. Explain that this is the SAME feeling we get when we have the Holy Ghost. Show child your Mind and Heart visual aide.

Holy Ghost Devotional 3: PREPARE: Hide a few collected toys or candies. You will need a flashlight for each child for this devotional, and scriptures.

1~Read 1 Kings 19:11-13--Elijah didn't here God's voice in an earthquake, it wasn't big like fire, it was small and gentle. The Holy Ghost, speaks for Heavenly Father in a still small voice.

2~Hide a candy and or various toys. Talk in a whisper voice for child to go and get them.

3~Discuss how when we listen to Mom or Dad, when they have a whisper or soft voice, or a kind voice listening on the first time, it is practice for listening to the still small voice.

4~ Have child shine their flash light at their head, and then at their heart. Explain how the holy ghost will come and give them a bright happy idea in their mind, and make their heart feel warm and happy, (re-show your Mind and Heart visual aide.)

5- Sing "Listen to the Still small voice" with these actions from the Nursery Manual, pg. 21, Additional Activities #2.

Holy Ghost Devotional Day 4: PREPARE: Write ”I will be safe when I listen to the Holy Ghost” onto paper. Either draw pictures of children in a seat belt for child to color, or have child cut out pictures of car seats, cars, streets, and other places they want to be safe in, to glue onto their picture.
Teach: Nursery Manual pg 19 “The Holy Ghost gives us comfort and help” Begin right where you left off yesterday, with the ‘Story’ about Harold B. Lee.
~GIVE A PERSONAL example of the Holy Ghost keeping you safe. When I gave my personal example, I had children act out the story I was telling while I was telling it to engage their listening.
~Ask of times they were kept safe, and explain that the Holy Ghost warned them of danger. STOP right before “The Holy Ghost helps us know what is right”
Holy Ghost Devotional 5: PREPARE: Gather many pictures of children’s making right and wrong choices. The Nursery Pictures are great for this, but I also gathered some from Primary 2, and Primary 3. Most pictures are of right choices, but one wrong choice was of two children fighting, and another of a boy who broke a window. You will need either your piece of velom, or your clear table cloth with drawn on picture of the Holy Ghost.
Teach: Play this game. Hold up a different picture each child’s turn. Hold up the Holy Ghost model to them, and ask what it will whisper to their hearts, to match the picture. You will be surprised of what the children will come up with, for example, “Don’t foget to say your prayers!” etc.
Holy Ghost Devotional Day 6: PREPARE a bag with something in it. Have a picture to show them of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, (such as the picture of the first vision) and the scriptures.
Teach: Nursery Manual pg 20 “The Holy Ghost helps us know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are real” After teaching them these paragraphs, show your picture, and scriptures and testify that the Holy Ghost told you Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ were true, and that the scriptures were truly their words, etc.
Holy Ghost Devotional Day 7: PREPARE by reading D&C 39:23, and obtain nursery pic. 1:11, and gather any baptism and confirmation pictures you may have.
Teach: Nursery Manual pg 20 “We can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” and share your testimony.

Stick stickers and dots onto a drawn figure of the child, then peel them off and discuss how Jesus wants us to care what HE thinks instead of what others think. This concept will go over the child’s head mainly, but will lay a foundation as you teach this concept over and over to children.

Art: Show love to others by making valentine cards for them. As a teacher, make a valentine, or special note, outlining special gifts, denoting how much they know the child, (I know you love to…) from Heavenly Father to the child.
Drama/Action/Pretend: Play the guess when I love you the most game, to solidify the concepts in the books. You can have them act out different things. Each time they act something out, even when its something naughty (this can be described vaguely, and acted out with a frowny face, as to not reinforce unwanted behavior), dialogue, “When you aren’t kind to your sister, I still love you THIS BIG, (show with your hands). Do this until child sees no matter if they do all their chores, or say something unkind, parent loves them the same. Transfer this to Heavenly Father, and his endless love for us no matter our choices. He doesn’t love the wrong action, but loves US. And knows that if we say we are sorry we will feel so much better inside, and he wants us to be happy!

Food: Pineapple Spider Cookies:
~Plastic spiders ( wash, save for later.)
~1 C. shortening , ~1 ½ C. sugar = Mix thoroughly
~1 egg = Mix in.
~9 oz of crushed pineapple, ~3 ½ C. flour, (may need more) ~1 tsp soda, ~½ tsp salt, ~½ tsp nutmeg, ~½ C. chopped walnuts
= Mix in rest of ingredients.
Put a circle of batter on greased cookie sheet and flatten. Place a clean plastic spider on the circle and cover with batter, close edges.
Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or till light brown.
Use lemon flavoring in white butter icing; also orange peel. If you are teaching child color orange, then also add orange food coloring to frosting.

Sprinkle walnuts in the center of icing.

Creation Day 6: Insects/ Bees -Week 10

First we put balls in, to be eggs, covered them in wax, waited 'three' days, then threw the balls. Milly got a straw from the broom and sucked out the nectar from fake flowers. Then we pretended to make honey in the muffin tins with the nectar, later she poured water from her water bottle into the muffin tins and she and Rawl stirred up the honey.

Scripture Story:
Activity: Demonstrate that God created animals with a spirit and body. On pieces of wax paper cut slightly bigger than a colored picture of an animal, trace with a Sharpie the animal’s outline. These represent the animal’s spirit body. Now put the traced wax paper on top of the picture of the animal to show the animal getting a body. To represent death, separate the two, putting the spirit body up higher, (call it heaven) and the body, tuck in a hat that represents the grave. Explain that because of Jesus Christ, at the resurrection, the animal will have its body and spirit re-united, and so will all of God's children! Re-unite the wax paper spirit with the body from the hat (grave) to show this, testify of this principle.
